Emergency Services
In its
search and rescue function, CAP performs over 85% of the U.S. Air Force's SAR
missions.
When called upon by the Air
Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) at Langley AFB, VA, CAP members
search for emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) and/or for missing aircraft.
Although CAP is an instrument of the federal government, members also support
state and local governments with emergency services in natural disasters, civil
defense and other emergencies; such "state" missions are performed
under the jurisdiction of the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety.
CAP's Search and Rescue / Disaster
Relief missions are conducted by our air crews or by our grounds teams, and
often by combining the two. We have an extensive radio communications capability
for use during search and rescue, disaster relief, or counter drug missions and
also for administrative purposes.
